Poonch, March 9,2026- In a significant step towards improving eye health and vision care, the Health Department of Jammu and Kashmir distributed free spectacles to patients at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment.
The initiative aims to assist individuals suffering from vision-related problems by providing them with appropriate eyeglasses after medical examination. Health officials said the program is part of ongoing efforts to reduce visual impairment and prevent avoidable blindness in the region.
Doctors and medical staff at the hospital conducted eye check-ups and screenings for patients before distributing spectacles. Beneficiaries included elderly residents, workers, and other individuals who had difficulty accessing proper vision care services.
Officials stated that the initiative will significantly help people improve their eyesight, perform daily activities more efficiently, and enhance their overall quality of life. Programs like this are particularly important in rural and border districts where access to eye care facilities can be limited.
The Health Department continues to organize awareness campaigns, eye screening camps, and free treatment services under the national program to promote preventive eye care and early detection of vision problems.
Authorities emphasized that such initiatives are essential for strengthening public health services in districts like Poonch, ensuring that more people receive timely diagnosis and treatment for eye-related conditions.
