Kashmir Ahead

Badamwari Almond blossom season begins in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 9,2026-The historic Badamwari garden in Srinagar has come alive with the onset of the much-awaited almond blossom season, drawing visitors, nature lovers, and photographers to witness the delicate pink and white blooms that signal the arrival of spring in Kashmir.

Located at the foothills of the Hari Parbat fort, Badamwari—known for its centuries-old almond orchards—has once again transformed into a vibrant floral landscape as almond trees burst into bloom. The annual almond blossom season is considered one of the earliest signs of spring in the Kashmir Valley and attracts thousands of tourists and locals every year.

To further enhance the beauty and biodiversity of the garden, the Floriculture Department has undertaken new plantation initiatives this year. Officials said that around 300 new almond trees have been planted in and around Badamwari to expand the historic orchard and preserve its traditional charm.

In addition to almond trees, the department has also introduced around 40,000 lavender plants as part of a landscaping and beautification drive. The lavender plantation is expected to add vibrant color and fragrance to the garden while also promoting ornamental horticulture in the region.

According to officials, the initiative aims to strengthen Badamwari’s status as a major spring tourism attraction in Srinagar. The lavender plants will complement the blooming almond trees and provide visitors with a more diverse floral experience.

Visitors have already begun flocking to the garden to enjoy the scenic views, take photographs, and celebrate the beginning of the spring season. The almond blossom festival, traditionally associated with Badamwari, is expected to witness significant footfall in the coming weeks if weather conditions remain favorable.

Authorities have also made arrangements to ensure proper maintenance of the garden, including improved pathways, seating areas, and cleanliness measures to accommodate the expected rush of tourists.

With almond blossoms covering the trees and new lavender plantations set to flourish in the coming months, Badamwari once again stands as a symbol of Kashmir’s natural beauty and the Valley’s rich horticultural heritage.
