Kashmir Ahead

CSIR–IIIM Jammu February 2026 highlights

Kashmir, March 2, 2026 – The CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu and its Branch Laboratory in Srinagar marked February 2026 as a month of innovation, scientific outreach, skill development, and farmer empowerment, reinforcing its commitment to translating research into real-world impact.

Throughout the month, CSIR–IIIM organized a series of high-impact programmes spanning industry–academia collaborations, advanced biomedical training, and entrepreneurship development. The initiatives highlighted the institute’s focus on bridging the gap between laboratory research and market-driven solutions.

Strengthening Industry–Academia Partnerships

February witnessed significant engagements between researchers and industry stakeholders, fostering collaborations aimed at accelerating drug discovery, phytopharmaceutical development, and fermentation technology applications. Through interactive workshops and review meetings, scientists and industrial partners explored pathways for technology transfer and commercialization.

Specialized training sessions in preclinical research and advanced biomedical techniques were conducted to enhance technical expertise among scholars, researchers, and young professionals. These hands-on programmes enabled participants to gain practical exposure to modern laboratory practices and translational research frameworks.

Boosting Startups and Biotech Innovation

The institute also undertook key review meetings for biotech park initiatives and startup incubation programmes. By supporting innovation-driven enterprises, CSIR–IIIM continued to promote entrepreneurship in biotechnology and allied sectors. Mentorship sessions and incubation support mechanisms were strengthened to help startups navigate regulatory, research, and commercialization challenges.

Student–scientist engagement activities were organized to inspire young minds and expose them to emerging areas of scientific research. Interactive sessions, lab visits, and mentorship discussions encouraged students to pursue careers in science and innovation.

Empowering Farmers Through Aroma Mission

A major highlight of the month was the continued implementation of the CSIR Aroma Mission, aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods through the cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants. Distribution of lavender, rosemary, and other aromatic crop planting material was carried out among farmers to promote diversification and income enhancement.

Apiculture entrepreneurship initiatives further supported rural communities by encouraging honey production and value-added products. Farmers received technical guidance and training to improve crop yield, post-harvest management, and market access, ensuring sustainable growth.

Celebrating National Science Day

The institute celebrated National Science Day with enthusiasm, organizing lectures, exhibitions, and outreach programmes to promote scientific awareness. The celebrations underscored the importance of research and innovation in addressing societal challenges and fostering national development.

Expanding Infrastructure and Research Capacity

Infrastructure expansion remained a priority, with developments aimed at strengthening research facilities and enabling advanced experimentation. These upgrades are expected to further enhance CSIR–IIIM’s capabilities in drug discovery, natural product research, and translational science.

Science in Action

By combining innovation, skill-building, entrepreneurship, and grassroots engagement, CSIR–IIIM Jammu and its Srinagar Branch demonstrated a comprehensive model of scientific impact throughout February 2026. From laboratory breakthroughs to farmer fields, the institute exemplified the spirit of “science in action,” aligning research excellence with societal benefit.

Driving innovation. Building skills. Empowering farmers. Inspiring young minds.
