Gulmarg , February 3,2026- Athletes from various parts of the country are taking part in advanced skiing and snowboarding training programmes at the world-famous Gulmarg slopes under the Jawahar Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (JISM), highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s growing stature as India’s premier winter sports destination.
The training programmes, conducted amid ideal snow conditions, have attracted professional athletes, beginners, and adventure sports enthusiasts from states including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi. Participants are receiving hands-on training from experienced instructors, using modern equipment and internationally accepted training modules.
Athletes praised Gulmarg’s natural powder snow, long ski runs, and world-class slopes, calling them comparable to leading international skiing destinations. Many participants also lauded the Jawahar Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering for its expert coaching, safety standards, and structured training approach.
“Gulmarg offers some of the best skiing terrain in Asia. The quality of coaching at JISM and the natural landscape make this an unmatched learning experience,” said one trainee from Maharashtra.
Officials at JISM stated that such training programmes are part of ongoing efforts to promote winter sports tourism, adventure sports, and youth engagement while nurturing professional skiing and snowboarding talent in the country. The institute has been playing a key role in producing skilled skiers, mountaineers, and rescue professionals over the years.
The initiative is also expected to boost tourism, local employment, and sports culture in Kashmir, with Gulmarg continuing to emerge as a hub for national and international winter sports activities.
With increasing participation from across India, Gulmarg is reinforcing its reputation as a global destination for skiing, snowboarding, and adventure tourism.
