Smart technology holds key to future of Indian railways: LG Manoj Sinha

Jammu, January 27, 2026:Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday highlighted the crucial role of smart technology and data-driven solutions in shaping the future of Indian Railways. Speaking during an interaction with Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) Officer Trainees at Lok Bhavan, Jammu, the LG emphasized that harnessing operational, passenger, and freight data can significantly improve service delivery, safety, and efficiency.

“Smart technology holds the key to reimagining Indian Railways as a passenger-first, 21st-century mobility powerhouse,” said the Lieutenant Governor. He stressed that data-driven railways would help optimize resource allocation, enhance demand forecasting, reduce accident risks, and strengthen infrastructure.

Shri Sinha also underlined the growing importance of technology in the freight sector, citing dedicated freight corridors, modern logistics terminals, and integrated digital platforms as tools to make freight transport faster, cheaper, and more competitive, providing a boost to India’s economy.

He encouraged the IRMS Officer Trainees to focus on innovation, smart operations, and technology-enabled railway infrastructure while keeping national interest and public service as the highest priority.

The LG’s remarks underscore the government’s push for modernizing Indian Railways, leveraging technology to improve efficiency, passenger experience, and economic contribution across the country.
