Jammu,January 22,2026: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired the Union Territory Level Standing Committee (UTLSC) meeting on the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), during which proposals worth over ₹16,000 crore were approved under PMGSY-IV to provide all-weather road connectivity to 1,626 rural habitations across Jammu and Kashmir.
The approved projects aim to significantly strengthen rural infrastructure, with special emphasis on border areas, hilly terrain, and remote regions of the Union Territory. Officials said the initiative will improve access to essential services, boost economic activity, and enhance connectivity in far-flung villages.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of timely execution, quality construction, and effective monitoring of road projects to ensure long-term durability, particularly in challenging geographical conditions. He also underscored the need to prioritise habitations that remain unconnected and face logistical difficulties due to terrain and weather.
Under PMGSY-IV, the focus is on expanding rural road networks to support inclusive development, improve mobility, and strengthen last-mile connectivity. The scheme is expected to play a key role in transforming rural livelihoods by facilitating better access to markets, healthcare, and education.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Rural Development Department and other concerned agencies, who reviewed the progress of ongoing works and discussed strategies for smooth implementation of the newly approved projects.
