Kishtwar, January 21,2026- The proposed Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project (HEP) is set to usher in a new era of development and economic growth for Kishtwar district, raising hopes for improved infrastructure, employment opportunities, and regional progress.
Building upon the success of the existing Dulhasti Hydroelectric Project, the Stage-II expansion aims to harness the hydropower potential of the Chenab River more effectively. The project is expected to significantly enhance power generation capacity, contributing to energy security for Jammu and Kashmir while supporting the region’s growing electricity demands.
Local residents and stakeholders view the project as a major boost for Kishtwar’s socio-economic landscape. Once operational, Dulhasti Stage-II HEP is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth, improve road connectivity, and stimulate allied economic activities in the region.
Officials have emphasised that the project will be implemented with due focus on environmental safeguards and sustainable development. Regular monitoring and adherence to prescribed guidelines will ensure that ecological balance and community interests are protected.
With its potential to transform Kishtwar into a key hydropower hub, the Dulhasti Stage-II HEP is widely seen as a landmark initiative that will accelerate development while reinforcing Jammu and Kashmir’s role in the renewable energy sector.
