Gulmarg, January 15,2026-In a major boost to tourism in north Kashmir, helicopter services were launched at the famous hill resort of Gulmarg on Thursday. The service was inaugurated by MLAs Farooq Ahmad Shah and Salman Sagar, marking a new chapter in enhancing tourism infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
The initiative has been started by local entrepreneur Abdul Majeed “Billa” Bakhshi, whose effort aims to provide visitors with a unique aerial experience of Gulmarg’s scenic beauty while also facilitating quicker access for tourists. The helicopter service is expected to attract high-end tourists and adventure enthusiasts, especially during the peak winter and ski seasons.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the MLAs lauded the initiative, stating that such ventures will not only promote tourism but also generate employment opportunities for local youth. They emphasised that improved connectivity and innovative tourism services are essential for strengthening Gulmarg’s position as a premier international tourist destination.
The helicopter service will offer joy rides and sightseeing tours, allowing tourists to enjoy panoramic views of snow-clad mountains, lush meadows and ski slopes. Officials and tourism stakeholders expressed hope that the new service would significantly contribute to the local economy and enhance the overall tourist experience in the region.
Local residents and tourism operators welcomed the launch, describing it as a positive step towards diversifying tourism offerings in Kashmir and encouraging private entrepreneurship.
