Kishtwar, October 28,2025: In a significant step toward enhancing air connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the long-awaited Kishtwar Airport project is finally set to take off, with a team from the Airports Authority of India commencing the feasibility study from today. The move marks the beginning of a crucial phase in the project aimed at linking the remote Chenab Valley region with major cities across India.
According to official sources, the AAI team will assess multiple aspects including topography, land suitability, runway alignment, environmental impact, and technical feasibility for establishing an airport in Kishtwar. The study will help determine the most viable location for the proposed airstrip and finalise the preliminary layout for civil aviation infrastructure in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, along with senior officials from the Public Works Department, Revenue Department, and Civil Aviation authorities, accompanied the visiting team to review potential sites. The administration expressed optimism that the Kishtwar Airport would not only improve regional connectivity but also open new avenues for tourism, trade, and employment generation in the Chenab Valley.
Officials highlighted that the airport project aligns with the Government of India’s UDAN scheme (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), which aims to make air travel accessible to smaller towns and promote balanced regional development. Once completed, the Kishtwar Airport will serve as a vital link between the Jammu region and other parts of the country, reducing travel time and boosting local economic growth.
The feasibility study by AAI is expected to conclude soon, following which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared for further approval and funding.
