Baramulla, July 28 — In a determined push to combat the growing menace of drug and substance abuse, the District Civil and Police Administration has launched a series of IEC (Information, Education & Communication) campaigns across panchayat levels in Jammu & Kashmir.
The grassroots initiative is part of a larger effort to create drug-free villages, under the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat, and involves close collaboration with school children, local leaders, teachers, and healthcare workers. The campaigns are being held in community halls, school courtyards, and open grounds across rural areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, and beyond.
“This is not just a campaign — it’s a call to protect our children, our future,” said a local sarpanch from Kreeri during a rally held in his panchayat.
From street plays, awareness talks, and poster-making competitions to door-to-door messaging and interaction with recovering youth, the campaign is using every tool to spark meaningful conversations and reduce stigma.
The police have also been holding joint sessions with parents and youth, warning about the new forms of synthetic drugs entering the valley and urging families to stay vigilant.
“We are not just enforcing the law. We are trying to rebuild trust and hope — one village at a time,” said a police officer from Sopore.
The campaign reflects a strong administrative will to educate rural youth, strengthen community policing, and promote a culture of mental wellness and resilience in Jammu & Kashmir.
