Jammu and Kashmir is situated in a seismically active zone, with Kishtwar and nearby areas like Doda and Katra experiencing frequent low to moderate-intensity earthquakes. Experts attribute this to the region’s location near tectonic plate boundaries, making it prone to seismic activity. Despite the low magnitude, residents are advised to remain vigilant and ensure buildings adhere to earthquake-resistant standards to minimise risks in future events.
