Handbook on Water Supply Released by LG Manoj Sinha in J&K

On October 7, Jammu & Kashmir LG Shri Manoj Sinha released the book Handbook on Water Supply, authored by G.S. Jha and Muzamil Rafiqui, during a ceremony at Raj Bhawan. This comprehensive guide provides crucial insights into the planning, operation, and maintenance of water supply schemes while offering practical recommendations for effective water management. In his address, he emphasised the administration’s commitment to achieving water security for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that over the past four years, significant strides have been made in enhancing infrastructure to ensure that every citizen has access to essential services and a livable environment. “The objective of the UT Administration is to transform cities and villages into centers of prosperity that meet the aspirations of the common man,” he stated. He expressed pride in the achievements made towards this goal, highlighting efforts to eliminate discrimination and promote equal opportunities for all citizens to lead joyful and prosperous lives. He called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the government’s vision of Har Ghar Nal Se Jal (Every home with a water connection) and to actively participate in the protection and preservation of water resources. Acknowledging the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, he urged citizens to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of local water bodies, including ponds, lakes, and rivers. He also highlighted the need for engineers and officials within the Jal Shakti Department to leverage modern technological tools for better water management. He praised Ghanshyam Jha, one of the book’s authors and former Chairperson of the J&K Water Resources Regulatory Authority, for his substantial contributions to water resource maintenance, flood control, irrigation, and drinking water supply. Through the publication of this handbook, the authors aim to provide essential knowledge and guidance to the engineering community, fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency in water supply management. As Jammu and Kashmir faces the pressing challenges of water scarcity and climate change, this initiative represents a critical step towards ensuring sustainable and equitable access to water for all.
