Srinagar, June 19,2026-Strengthening safety measures for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday flagged off 45 specialised State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Mountain Rescue Teams from Srinagar.
The teams have been specially trained in mountain rescue operations, disaster management, emergency response, and evacuation procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine.
The deployment forms a crucial part of the multi-layered preparedness plan for the yatra, with SDRF personnel set to be stationed at key locations along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Their responsibilities will include responding to medical emergencies, rescue operations, adverse weather situations, landslides, and other unforeseen incidents that may arise during the pilgrimage.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Nalin Prabhat emphasised the importance of readiness and coordination among various agencies involved in the yatra. He commended the SDRF teams for their dedication and rigorous training, expressing confidence in their ability to provide timely assistance to pilgrims whenever required.
The flag-off ceremony highlighted the administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and smooth pilgrimage experience. Authorities have also intensified arrangements related to security, healthcare, transportation, communication, and disaster response to facilitate the successful conduct of the annual yatra.
Every year, thousands of devotees from across the country participate in the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, making robust rescue and emergency response mechanisms a key component of the overall management strategy.
