Kashmir Cyclothon 2022

A 300km-long Kashmir Cyclothon 2022 was organised by the District Youth Services & Sports Pulwama. The aim was to promote cycling and cycling tourism in Kashmir. The cyclists went to Aharbal, Verinag and Kokernag in Kashmir. Gowhar Rafiqi Tourism Officer said that the cycling event was also held to promote new destinations in South Kashmir apart from Pulwama, Shopian and Kokernag.

The Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta urged the participating cyclists to be ambassadors of peace and create awareness among public about the perils of drug abuse. Giving importance to sports he said that sports engages youth in a positive way and helps in realising their full physical and mental potential. He also said that this cyclothon will provide these cyclists an opportunity to explore the beautiful locales during this 300kms-long cycle journey.

International cyclists had arrived from Nepal, and there were national cyclists from Pune and local Kashmiris. There were a total of 60 cyclists and the main purpose was to promote tourism in Kashmir. A cyclist from Delhi was appreciative of the welcome treatment. A woman cyclist gave this message to all health conscious individuals that she controlled her blood sugar by cycling. She says do cycling or any other exercise to get over your health problems. There were many female cyclists from Ludhiana, Punjab and Delhi as well who were invited to participate in the event. The cyclists were happy to be a part of this event and be at the place popularly called ‘heaven on earth’. More than the beauty of the place they were grateful to receive so much love from the Kashmiris
