Ram Navami: 4 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance at Vaishno Devi

Katra, October 20,2026- On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, an atmosphere of deep faith and devotion prevailed at Katra’s Darshan Deodi as pilgrims from across the country arrived to seek blessings at the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. During the ongoing Shardiya Navratri, more than four lakh pilgrims have so far paid obeisance at the holy cave, reflecting the enduring faith of devotees.

Faith Fills the Base Camp

From the early hours of the morning, the base camp at Katra echoed with chants of “Jai Mata Di” as devotees, many of them carrying red chunris and offerings, began their sacred journey towards the Trikuta hills. Families, elderly pilgrims, young groups and first-time visitors queued up at registration counters and check points, united by a shared sense of devotion.

Darshan Deodi, the main gateway to the yatra, witnessed a steady flow of devotees throughout the day. The festive spirit of Navratri, combined with Ram Navami, has drawn large crowds from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and several other states.

Many pilgrims described the journey as a deeply spiritual experience. Several said they plan their visit every year during Navratri, believing that the nine days of worship hold special significance for devotees of the Goddess.

Significance of Ram Navami and Navratri

Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Ram and is celebrated with great devotion across the country. When it coincides with Navratri, the occasion takes on added spiritual importance, as devotees honour both the divine feminine energy of Shakti and the ideals of righteousness represented by Lord Ram.

Shardiya Navratri is among the busiest periods for the Vaishno Devi yatra. Every year, lakhs of devotees undertake the pilgrimage during these nine days, making it one of the most important times in the shrine’s calendar.

Administration Issues Advisory

With the large turnout, the administration has advised devotees to follow the prescribed guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage. Pilgrims have been asked to keep their yatra registration slips and other necessary documents handy at all times, as they are required for verification at various check points along the route.

Devotees have also been urged to cooperate with security personnel and shrine board staff, avoid overcrowding at key points, and follow instructions issued from time to time. Elderly pilgrims, children and those with health concerns have been advised to take adequate rest during the trek, stay hydrated and carry essential medicines.

Authorities have also appealed to pilgrims to maintain cleanliness along the track, use designated facilities and avoid carrying prohibited items. Visitors are encouraged to check weather and traffic updates before starting their journey, particularly during peak hours.

Arrangements in Place

To manage the heavy rush, arrangements have been made for crowd management, medical assistance, drinking water, sanitation and security along the yatra route. Facilities such as helicopter services, battery cars, ponies, palanquins and ropeway services are also available for pilgrims, depending on their needs and preferences.

Officials said teams remain stationed at key locations, including the base camp, Banganga, Adhkuwari and Bhawan, to assist devotees and ensure orderly movement. Coordination between the shrine board, police and civil administration has been strengthened to handle the festival-time surge.

A Journey of Devotion

For the devotees who walk the steep track from Katra to the holy cave, the pilgrimage is more than a journey; it is an expression of faith, patience and surrender. Despite the long climb and crowds, many pilgrims said the sight of the holy cave and the blessings received make every effort worthwhile.

As Navratri celebrations continue, the number of pilgrims is expected to rise further in the coming days. The administration has urged devotees to plan their visit carefully, follow guidelines and help make the yatra a safe and memorable experience for everyone.

With the echo of devotional chants filling the air, Katra continues to stand as a vibrant centre of faith, drawing devotees from every corner of the country to the sacred abode of Mata Vaishno Devi.
