I have been doing Mushroom farming for three years, said a female in Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir. There are more ladies who work with me. I am grateful to this Government and the Department of Agriculture J&K who supported us and showed us the way to farming mushrooms. A Government official stated that the Mushroom scheme is going on for sometime. People often ask what is the profit in it. Let me tell you that there is a direct benefit ratio of 1:2.5. The Government in HADP project for mushroom development has kept aside project funding. In the district, the government target is setting up 5 units. We have set up two Controlled Condition mushroom crafting unit sheds so far in the private sector. The government has provided through the Department 8 lakh subsidy each to the two farmers. Earlier my husband used to drive autos but these days work is limited. So I thought what else could we do to earn our living. The Department people came to us and our group to show how we could start growing mushrooms and earn profits. After discussing with my family and others in the group, we started this mushroom business, said the female mushroom farmer in Udhampur. Today, my husband and children also work together to grow mushrooms. We are grateful to the Department of Agriculture and the Self Help Group that came to Udhampur Block. We learnt a lot from them. We ladies are also thankful to our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi who keeps coming up with schemes for the benefit of women.
