Udhampur medical college emerges as healthcare lifeline under 12 years of Modi government

Udhampur, June 17,2026- Marking the achievements of the 12 years of the Modi Government, the upgradation of the District Hospital Udhampur into a Government Medical College has significantly strengthened healthcare infrastructure in the region, bringing quality medical services closer to residents.

The transformation has introduced specialist doctors, advanced medical equipment, improved diagnostic facilities, and enhanced patient care services. Residents who previously had to travel to Jammu for specialized treatment can now access a wide range of healthcare services within their district.

According to local residents and healthcare officials, referrals to hospitals in Jammu have declined considerably following the establishment of the medical college. The institution has especially benefited people living in remote and hilly areas of Udhampur, who often faced difficulties accessing advanced medical care due to distance and terrain.

Apart from improving healthcare delivery, the Government Medical College has also created employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative staff, and support workers. The institution has further contributed to medical education and training, enabling local students to pursue professional healthcare careers closer to home.

The development is being viewed as a major step towards strengthening healthcare accessibility and medical education in Jammu and Kashmir. It reflects the government’s focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure, reducing regional disparities, and ensuring better health outcomes for citizens.

The upgraded facility continues to serve thousands of patients annually and has become a key healthcare hub for Udhampur and adjoining districts.
