Srinagar, 17 January 2026: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday called for a stronger and sustained partnership between the government and the travel fraternity to further promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, terming the sector a key pillar of economic growth and employment generation in the Union Territory.
Addressing representatives of travel and tourism associations, hoteliers, tour operators and other stakeholders, the Chief Minister said close collaboration with the travel industry is vital to effectively showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism potential at national and international levels. He emphasized that the government is committed to providing a supportive and business-friendly environment for the tourism sector.
CM Omar Abdullah said Jammu and Kashmir offers a unique mix of natural landscapes, heritage, culture, adventure and spiritual tourism. He underlined the need for innovative promotion strategies, quality hospitality services and responsible tourism practices to enhance visitor experience.
Highlighting the role of the travel fraternity in restoring tourist confidence, the Chief Minister said improved infrastructure, better connectivity and enhanced safety measures are being prioritized to strengthen tourism across both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region.
Officials informed that multiple initiatives are underway to boost tourism, including the promotion of eco-tourism, adventure tourism, winter sports and film tourism. Skill development programs, digital marketing and destination diversification are also being focused on to ensure sustainable growth.
CM Omar Abdullah assured tourism stakeholders that their suggestions would be taken on board while framing future policies and initiatives. He reiterated that tourism remains a cornerstone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and a major source of livelihood for thousands of people.
