Traditional Pashmina Weaving Providing Employment & Income for Pulwama Youth A Pulwama skilled artisan Dilwar Ahmad recalls that Pashmina work started a long time ago since before his childhood days. All the youths in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir learnt the art and were doing Pashmina weaving. That skill has enabled them to earn their living in a decent manner. All this is handwork done on pure Pashmina. The tourists who come here in Pulwama prefer to buy from us since it is all handmade. Newcomers take one or two months to learn the skill then they are able to sustain their living. One weaver completes two-three stoles in a day earning around Rs 1200 per day. Then there are shawls, all this requires hard work, said Artisan Dilwar Ahmad. Another skilled Artisan Shariq Ahmad said, we first make shawls then give to another person for washing and pressing. Kashmir shawls and stoles are famous all over the world. This work has been going on for 20-30 years and all those who are looking for employment opportunities can learn this art to earn a good living, said the skilled artisan from Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir.
