Tourism surge: Sonamarg welcomes over 4.17 lakh visitors till november

Srinagar, December 26,2025 — The picturesque tourist destination of Sonamarg in central Kashmir has recorded a significant surge in tourism, with over 4.17 lakh tourists visiting the region till November this year, officials said.

According to data shared by the Tourism Department, the footfall includes both domestic and foreign tourists, reflecting growing confidence among visitors and a steady revival of tourism activities in the region. Sonamarg, known for its snow-covered peaks, alpine meadows, and scenic landscapes, continues to remain one of Kashmir’s most sought-after destinations.

Officials attributed the rise in tourist numbers to improved infrastructure, better road connectivity, enhanced security measures, and proactive tourism promotion. The completion and upgrading of facilities, along with adventure tourism activities such as trekking, camping, and snow sports, have further boosted Sonamarg’s appeal.

Local stakeholders, including hoteliers, pony walas, guides, and shopkeepers, welcomed the increase in tourist inflow, stating that it has positively impacted local livelihoods and the regional economy.

Tourism officials said that with the onset of the winter season and expected snowfall, Sonamarg is likely to witness continued tourist interest, especially among visitors seeking winter experiences.

The growing tourist footfall underscores Sonamarg’s role as a key contributor to Kashmir’s tourism revival, reinforcing its status as a prime destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike.
