Srinagar, August 12, 2025 – In a vibrant display of patriotism, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led a mega Tiranga Yatra around the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar on Tuesday. The event, part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of residents, public representatives, and officials, showcasing a unified spirit of national pride.
The Tiranga Yatra, a walkathon organized to celebrate India’s Independence Day, commenced from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and proceeded to the Botanical Garden. LG Sinha flagged off the rally, emphasizing the significance of the Tricolor as a symbol of the dreams and sacrifices of freedom fighters and martyrs. “The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in J&K has grown into a people’s movement. From Pulwama to Poonch, from Kulgam to Kathua, all houses in 20 districts are celebrating and hoisting the Tricolor,” Sinha stated, urging citizens to hoist the national flag with pride.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah joined the yatra, walking alongside LG Sinha and hundreds of locals, reinforcing the message of unity and patriotism. The event highlighted the region’s commitment to nation-building, with participants from diverse sections of society carrying the national flag and chanting patriotic slogans. The Panch Pran pledge, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was administered by LG Sinha to the gathered crowd, further strengthening the resolve for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
The Tiranga Yatra was meticulously planned, with LG Sinha having chaired a high-level meeting on August 9 to review arrangements, attended by senior officials including Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta and GOC 15 Corps Lt General Rajiv Ghai. The administration ensured widespread participation, with government departments issuing directives for employees to join the rally and display the Tricolor on social media.
The rally also served as a response to critics of Jammu and Kashmir’s integration following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. LG Sinha noted, “The huge participation is a reply to those who claimed none in the Valley would pick up the Tricolor,” referencing past statements by political leaders. The event underscored a “changed Kashmir,” with increased tourist footfall and a peaceful environment signaling normalcy and development.
Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh also participated in parallel Tiranga rallies, terming the public response as a sign of Kashmir’s progress. “The massive participation of locals is a welcome development,” DGP Singh remarked, highlighting the region’s peaceful trajectory. The Tiranga Yatra concluded with the release of a monograph dedicated to J&K’s martyrs and the launch of a Tiranga signature campaign, further cementing the campaign’s emotional connect with the people. The event, filled with enthusiasm and unity, marked a significant moment in Jammu and Kashmir’s journey toward a brighter, inclusive future.
