JAMMU, JANUARY 11:The three-day orientation program for newly elected Members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly concluded at the Assembly Complex in Jammu. The program aimed to familiarize the legislators with the rules, procedures, and etiquettes of the Assembly, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively.
In his address at the valedictory session, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, emphasized the importance of active participation in the House. He urged the newly elected MLAs to engage in legislative proceedings with a clear understanding of the rules and procedures that govern the functioning of the Assembly. He stressed that a well-informed legislature is essential to hold the executive accountable for its actions and responsibilities.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to all participants, particularly the newly elected members, for their commitment to the program. He expressed hope that the orientation would enable them to fully grasp the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Assembly and contribute to a vibrant and effective legislative process. Former Minister of State, Dr. Satya Pal Singh, discussed Parliamentary Privileges, Customs, Conventions, and Etiquettes. P.K. Mallick, Director of PRIDE at the Lok Sabha Secretariat, elaborated on the significance of privileges and their role in safeguarding the status and protocol of MLAs. Dr. Satya Prakash, Additional Secretary at the Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, provided an overview of the National E-Vidhan Application (NEVA) under the One Nation, One Application initiative, outlining its objectives and benefits.
During the session, MLAs actively engaged with the resource persons, raising queries about parliamentary privileges and other related issues.
In his concluding remarks, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit, along with P.K. Mallick, presented a vote of thanks to all participants, the officers of various departments, and the PRIDE team for making the orientation program a success.
