Sonamarg, February 15,2026-As many as 180 athletes from across the country are participating in the National SnowShoe Championship that commenced in the picturesque tourist destination of Sonamarg.
Organised amid thick snow and sub-zero temperatures, the championship has drawn professional and amateur athletes eager to showcase endurance and skill in one of India’s premier winter sports events. Participants are competing in various categories, including sprint and long-distance snowshoe races.
Officials said the event aims to promote winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir and position Sonamarg as a major hub for adventure tourism. The championship is being conducted under the supervision of the Snowshoe Federation of India in collaboration with local authorities.
Athletes expressed enthusiasm about competing in Sonamarg, praising the scenic beauty and challenging terrain. The event is also expected to boost local tourism and provide exposure to emerging winter sports talent from the region.
