Smooth ride ahead: NH-44 clear for all morning traffic

Srinagar, April 29, 2025 – The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway , a crucial link between Kashmir and Jammu, is operating seamlessly this morning, according to traffic authorities. Passenger vehicles are moving effortlessly in both directions, while Heavy Motor Vehicles are permitted to travel from Qazigund towards Jammu, supporting the steady flow of goods and travellers.

Traffic officials reported no major disruptions, such as landslides or road blockages, on NH-44 today. This follows recent challenges, including temporary highway closures due to heavy rainfall and a cloudburst in the Ramban district that had delayed commuters and stranded vehicles. The restored flow of traffic brings relief to those dependent on this vital route.

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police emphasised the need for drivers, particularly those operating HMVs, to follow lane discipline to prevent congestion. Commuters are advised to check road conditions before traveling, as NH-44 is prone to weather-related disruptions, especially in the Banihal-Ramban stretch.

The highway’s smooth operation follows heightened security measures in the region after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which led to stricter traffic protocols to ensure safe travel for tourists and locals. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s instructions to prioritize secure and efficient movement have helped stabilise traffic flow today.
