SKUAST-K inaugurates competition success corner at central library to boost academic excellence

SRINAGAR, APRIL 30, 2025 — In a significant move to empower students and scholars, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir inaugurated the Competition Success Corner (CSC) at its Central Library in Shalimar, aiming to provide specialised resources for competitive exams and academic advancement. The initiative, launched on April 29, 2025, is set to foster a culture of academic excellence and competitive preparedness among the university’s academic community.

The CSC, a dedicated facility within the Central Library, is equipped with an extensive collection of books, journals, and digital resources tailored for competitive examinations, including agricultural sciences, civil services, and other professional entrance tests. It also offers access to online databases, e-books, and practice materials to support students pursuing higher education and career opportunities. “This corner will transform aspirations into achievements by providing the tools needed for success,” a university spokesperson said during the inauguration.

The Central Library, a cornerstone of SKUAST-K’s library system, already boasts over 79,639 accessions, including books, periodicals, theses, and CD-ROM databases, with automated services like barcoded circulation and online access through campus networks. The addition of the CSC enhances its role as a hub for student empowerment, catering specifically to the needs of those preparing for competitive and academic challenges.

Speaking at the event, a senior university official emphasized the initiative’s alignment with SKUAST-K’s mission to support holistic education. “Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to excel in competitive arenas while advancing their academic pursuits,” they said, highlighting the university’s commitment to nurturing talent in Jammu and Kashmir.

The CSC initiative comes at a time when SKUAST-K is expanding its academic offerings, with seven undergraduate courses and master’s programs in 55 disciplines. The facility is expected to benefit not only students but also faculty and researchers seeking to stay updated with the latest advancements in agricultural and allied sciences.

Students have welcomed the move, with many expressing enthusiasm for the dedicated space. “The CSC will make preparing for exams like ICAR and UPSC much easier, with all resources in one place,” said Aisha, a final-year student at SKUAST-K. Faculty members also praised the initiative, noting its potential to bridge gaps in access to quality study materials.

The inauguration reflects SKUAST-K’s broader vision of fostering competitive preparedness and innovation, as evidenced by recent achievements like its 20th ranking in the NIRF Agriculture and Allied Sector category and collaborations with institutions like the University of Western Australia.

As SKUAST-K continues to champion educational excellence, the Competition Success Corner stands as a testament to its commitment to empowering the next generation of scholars and professionals in Jammu and Kashmir, equipping them to succeed in a competitive world.
