Srinagar, September 3, 2025 – The anticipation is building as the second edition of the Kashmir Marathon is set to return this October, marking another milestone in the region’s journey toward normalcy and prosperity. The event, organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department, promises to showcase the stunning landscapes of Srinagar while promoting fitness, tourism, and cultural heritage. In a recent social media post, local resident and patriot Fatima Dar expressed her excitement: “The much-awaited Second Edition of the Kashmir Marathon is coming! A proud moment for Kashmir that such events are becoming a new normal in the valley! Peace opened gateways to progress and prosperity!”
Her sentiments echo the broader narrative of transformation in Jammu & Kashmir following years of efforts to restore peace, which has enabled large-scale events like this marathon to flourish.Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 edition, which attracted over 2,000 participants including 59 international athletes from 13 countries, the 2025 marathon aims to draw even larger crowds.
The event features two primary race categories: the Full Marathon (42 km) and the Half Marathon (21 km). Runners will traverse a picturesque route highlighting iconic landmarks such as Dal Lake, ancient Chinar trees, Mughal Gardens, Shankaracharya Temple, Pari Mahal, and the Dargah Shrine, all set against the majestic Zabarwan mountain range.
The course combines flat stretches with hilly terrain, offering an elevation gain of approximately 960 meters, challenging participants while immersing them in Kashmir’s natural beauty.
Registrations are expected to open soon on the official website, kashmirmarathon.jk.gov.in, with fees anticipated to be around ₹2,200 for the full marathon, similar to last year.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and in good health, with medical support provided along the route. The event emphasizes a no-refund policy, and runners are advised to prepare for the high-altitude conditions through proper training.
The marathon not only promotes physical activity but also boosts tourism in the valley. Supported by key figures like J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director of Tourism Raja Yaqoob, it highlights Kashmir’s potential as a global destination for adventure and culture.
Last year’s prize pool included ₹25 lakh for full marathon winners, and similar incentives are expected this time to attract top athletes.
As peace continues to pave the way for such initiatives, the Kashmir Marathon stands as a testament to the region’s progress. For updates, interested runners should monitor the official website and social media channels.
