Boniyar, September 30,2026- The Indian Army organised a “Run for Fun” event at Boniyar on Wednesday, drawing more than 500 participants from the armed forces and the local community. Troops, veterans, students and local residents took part in the event, which was aimed at promoting fitness, community spirit and enduring camaraderie.
The event was conducted in a festive atmosphere, with participants of different age groups and backgrounds joining together on a common course. The strong turnout reflected the interest of local residents in activities that combine physical fitness with community engagement.
Serving soldiers ran alongside veterans, underlining the continuing association between the Army and those who have served in its ranks. Students also participated in large numbers, taking the opportunity to interact with troops in an informal and friendly setting.
Organisers said the initiative was designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and to strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the people of the region. Events of this nature, they noted, provide a platform for citizens and soldiers to come together outside formal settings and to build mutual understanding.
Physical fitness remains a core value of the Indian Army, and public events such as fun runs are widely used to extend that message to the wider population. Regular exercise is associated with better cardiovascular health, improved stamina and greater mental wellbeing. Non-competitive formats, in particular, are considered effective in drawing in participants who may not otherwise take part in organised sporting activities.
The participation of students was seen as especially significant. Interaction with troops and veterans exposes young people to the values of discipline, teamwork and perseverance, and encourages them to view fitness as part of daily life. Such engagement can also inspire interest in careers in the armed forces and public service.
For veterans, the event offered an opportunity to remain connected with their units and with the wider military community. Their presence added to the sense of continuity and shared purpose that the organisers sought to promote.
Community outreach of this kind forms part of the Army’s broader engagement with civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, where it regularly conducts sports events, medical camps and awareness programmes. Such activities are intended to build trust and goodwill, and they often serve as occasions for people from different walks of life to interact.
The event concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing their appreciation for the initiative. The large turnout suggests there is scope for similar activities in the future, whether in the form of runs, sports meets or other community programmes.
By bringing together more than 500 people in a spirit of fitness and friendship, the “Run for Fun” at Boniyar reinforced the message that health, unity and mutual respect are shared values between the armed forces and the communities they serve.
