Baramulla, April 26, 2025 – The Rural Development Department Kashmir, in collaboration with RDD Baramulla, organised a one-day District-Level Workshop-cum-Orientation Programme on the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin at Government Degree College Baramulla. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, the event aimed to enhance awareness and streamline the implementation of PMAY-G, a flagship scheme envisioning ‘Housing for All’ by providing pucca houses to eligible rural households in Jammu and Kashmir.
The workshop brought together field officers, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and stakeholders to discuss strategies for effective execution of PMAY-G, focusing on transparency, quality, and inclusivity. DC Sherpa lauded the efforts of RDD and field staff, particularly in Rafiabad, Zaingeer, and Lalpora blocks, which have achieved 100% saturation under the scheme. “No eligible beneficiary should be left behind,” Sherpa emphasized, urging officers to maintain high standards in construction and expedite processes while ensuring accountability.
The Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Baramulla, Shabir Ahmad Hakak, outlined the objectives of PMAY-G, highlighting its role in transforming rural livelihoods through financial assistance, pucca housing, and sustainable development. He stressed the need for close coordination with PRIs, timely fund disbursement, social audits, and technology-driven monitoring, such as geo-tagging and MIS reporting, to ensure seamless implementation. Experts from RDD provided detailed insights into operational guidelines, beneficiary selection, quality control measures, and grievance redressal mechanisms, equipping attendees with practical knowledge.
The event celebrated Baramulla’s progress under PMAY-G, with Rafiabad, Zaingeer, and Lalpora blocks recognized for their exemplary performance. In a special ceremony, RDD Kashmir presented awards to DC Minga Sherpa, ACD Shabir Ahmad Hakak, and the respective Block Development Officers (BDOs) for their leadership in achieving full coverage. The recognition underscored Baramulla’s commitment to the scheme’s goal of providing durable, safe housing to rural families.
A technical session concluded the workshop, featuring demonstrations on MIS reporting, geo-tagging of houses, and the use of digital tools for monitoring and addressing grievances. The session aimed to empower field staff, including Panchayat Secretaries, Village Level Workers, and other functionaries, to leverage technology for efficient project management.
Joint Director Planning Baramulla, Javed Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP), BDOs, and other stakeholders attended the programme, reflecting a collaborative approach to advancing rural development. The workshop aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, promoting inclusive growth and sustainable infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir’s rural areas.
The success of PMAY-G in Baramulla, coupled with the workshop’s focus on capacity building, sets a benchmark for other districts. As RDD Kashmir continues to drive the scheme’s implementation, the initiative promises to uplift rural communities, ensuring every eligible household has access to a pucca house and a brighter future.
