SRINAGAR, July 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a short-term weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of rain accompanied by gusty winds in several districts over the next six hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, districts likely to be affected include Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Bandipora, Doda, Ramban, and parts of Jammu division. The alert cautions residents and travelers of sudden weather changes, including thunderstorms, strong wind gusts (up to 50 km/h), and moderate to heavy rain in isolated pockets.
“People in vulnerable and hilly areas should remain cautious. Avoid travel unless necessary,” said a MeT official.
Amarnath Yatra Advisory Issued
Officials also advised Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to closely monitor weather updates and follow instructions from yatra control rooms, especially along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, where slippery tracks, flash floods, and low visibility may disrupt movement.
Precautionary Measures and Control Rooms Activated
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administrations have activated emergency helplines to respond to weather-related incidents. The public has been asked to stay indoors during windstorms, avoid riverbanks, and report any landslide-prone conditions.
Rainfall Forecast and Outlook
The MeT department has forecast intermittent rainfall for the next 2–3 days across Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, with intensity expected to increase in higher reaches.
