Srinagar, July 28 — The railway infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir is undergoing a rapid transformation, with significant strides made in track maintenance, passenger amenities, and modernisation of coach overhaul systems. This upgrade marks a major leap in the Union Territory’s journey towards seamless connectivity and economic growth.
Officials from the Northern Railway confirmed that advanced technology and high-precision machinery are being deployed to ensure smoother, faster, and safer train operations across the region. Special focus is being laid on track renewal, bridge strengthening, and periodic maintenance, particularly in the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail corridor.
“We are not just maintaining infrastructure, we are building a new future for Jammu & Kashmir. Railways will be a key driver in connecting people and markets,” said a senior Railway official.
At the Coach Maintenance Depot in Budgam, passenger coaches are now being overhauled with improved safety features, sanitation systems, and comfort-enhancing upgrades — ensuring a better travel experience for thousands of daily commuters.
The transformation aligns with the broader vision of #BadaltaKashmir — a campaign that reflects the region’s shift towards peace, progress, and prosperity. The railway upgrades are expected to boost tourism, trade, and inter-regional access, especially once the Udhampur-Baramulla railway line becomes fully operational with the commissioning of the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge.
