Rahul Sharma’s indigenous art venture revives Dogra cultural legacy

Udhampur, January 21,2026-Rahul Sharma, a young and talented sculptor from Kuprala village in Udhampur district, is carving a new path by blending traditional art with modern entrepreneurship. A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) graduate from the University of Jammu, Sharma has successfully launched an indigenous art studio in Lehari, Udhampur, dedicated to creating durable and lightweight fiber sculptures.

With a vision to preserve and promote Dogra culture, Rahul’s venture focuses on crafting sculptures inspired by local heritage, mythology, and traditional themes. His innovative use of fiber material has not only enhanced durability and portability but has also opened new market opportunities for indigenous art beyond the region.

Turning passion into profession, Rahul Sharma has emerged as a role model for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Through his studio, he actively trains local youth in sculpting techniques, providing them with practical skills and encouraging self-employment. His initiative has helped create livelihood opportunities while nurturing creativity among aspiring artists.

Speaking about his journey, Rahul said that his aim is to revive the rich cultural identity of the Dogra community while empowering young people to pursue entrepreneurship rather than depend solely on conventional employment. His venture reflects how traditional art forms can be transformed into sustainable business models.
