Naushera,September 21, 2026- A distribution camp under Project “Samarth,” a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Jammu & Kashmir Bank, was organised in Naushera to provide free aids and assistive devices to identified persons with disabilities. The event brought together government agencies, a public sector manufacturer, and civil society representatives in a coordinated effort to improve accessibility and mobility for the differently-abled population of the region.
The camp was organised by the Mohali Unit of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in association with the District Administration and the Social Welfare Department, Rajouri. It was held under the aegis of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, functioning under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The venue for the camp was the Nowshera Dak Bungalow, which served as a convenient assembly point for beneficiaries from across the tehsil.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Vikrant Choudhary, who personally distributed assistive devices among the beneficiaries present at the camp. His participation underscored the administrative support extended to the initiative and highlighted the collaborative nature of the effort between the banking sector, government departments, and the district administration.
Speaking about the initiative, Vinod Sharma, District Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association and a social worker associated with the cause, said, “A camp sponsored by Jammu & Kashmir Bank and organized by the Social Welfare Department was held here at the Nowshera Dak Bungalow for persons with disabilities. In this camp, wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, tricycles, sticks, and other assistive devices were provided.” His remarks reflect the wide range of equipment made available to beneficiaries, addressing multiple categories of physical disability under a single initiative.
Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Kabir Hussain provided further details on the scale and scope of the camp. He said, “Today, our camp was organized for persons with physical disabilities. The equipment distributed included hearing aids, tricycles, wheelchairs, and motorized/chargeable tricycles. We distributed materials to 56 beneficiaries today. This camp was manufactured by ALIMCO and sponsored by J&K Bank.” His statement confirms that a total of 56 persons with disabilities benefited directly from the camp, receiving devices tailored to their specific needs, including advanced motorized tricycles designed to enhance independent mobility.
The devices distributed at the camp — ranging from basic mobility aids like sticks and crutches to more sophisticated equipment such as hearing aids and battery-operated tricycles — are aimed at enabling beneficiaries to lead more independent and dignified lives. Such camps play a crucial role in remote and semi-urban regions like Naushera, where access to specialized medical equipment and rehabilitation services is often limited.
Project “Samarth,” meaning “capable” or “empowered” in Hindi, reflects J&K Bank’s broader commitment to social welfare through its CSR arm. By partnering with ALIMCO, a Government of India enterprise with decades of experience in manufacturing assistive devices, the bank has been able to ensure that the equipment distributed meets quality and durability standards mandated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The collaboration between the District Administration, the Social Welfare Department, and financial institutions like J&K Bank demonstrates a growing trend of public-private partnerships aimed at disability welfare in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials indicated that such camps are part of a continuing effort to reach persons with disabilities across different tehsils of Rajouri district, ensuring that assistive technology reaches those who need it most, regardless of their geographic location.
