Power Lifting Championship
Eighteen-year-old student Humaira Mohammad of Higher Secondary School in Handwara, Jammu & Kashmir has become the star powerlifter lifting 235kg to win gold in a tournament. She has won the power lifting championship in her UT. In September 2022 she bagged two golds in J&K UT Powerlifting and Deadlift Championship.
Humaira used to frequent the gym in Kupwara to maintain her fitness. Then she realised after her trainer Tabish Ramzan pointed out that she could use her natural strength to do power lifting. She entered a competition for Miss District North Championship and won it. This motivated her more and she fell in love with the sport and continued practicing. She was titled Miss North Kashmir three times from March 2022 to June 2022. Now she is preparing for the national games. She was criticised for choosing powerlifting but her family supported her. Humaira did not pay attention to these and stayed focused on her goal and today she can speak about her success story.
