The Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) is providing crucial support to economically weaker patients suffering from kidney-related ailments at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Chadoora in Budgam. The dialysis centre at SDH Chadoora has been providing services under the programme for more than a year. According to doctors at the centre, around 70 patients have been enrolled for dialysis, with approximately 12 to 15 patients receiving treatment every week. The centre currently has two dialysis machines and manages around four patients each day. Eligible beneficiaries covered under the Ayushman Bharat/Golden Card can avail dialysis services free of cost, along with medicines and other required support during treatment. The facility has provided significant relief to patients who previously faced high expenses at private healthcare centres. Patients and their families said the Golden Card has helped reduce the financial burden associated with regular dialysis. Sheeraz Ahmad Dar, who accompanies his uncle for treatment, said medicines alone could cost around ₹2,400 to ₹2,500 for a single course if purchased from the market. Another patient suffering from kidney disease and diabetes said private treatment had previously resulted in considerable expenses. At SDH Chadoora, he said, dialysis, medicines, injections and other essential services are being provided without payment under the Golden Card. Medical staff at the centre also highlighted the positive response from beneficiaries and said the facility has made regular dialysis more accessible to needy patients. The dialysis centre at SDH Chadoora demonstrates the importance of accessible healthcare facilities for patients requiring regular and life-sustaining treatment, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
