UDHAMPUR, MARCH 23, 2022 – The Municipal Council Udhampur, under the leadership of President Dr. Jogeshwar Gupta, conducted a comprehensive cleanliness and sanitation drive at Devika Park, aimed at promoting public health and raising awareness about water-borne diseases in Udhampur town. The initiative saw active participation from Scouts & Guides, teachers from Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School, and council members, including Anil Arora, Vikram Salathia, Vimal Sharma (Patwari), Ashok Sharma (Ex-Deputy Director Sports), and SKC (MCU Udhampur).The drive focused on maintaining sanitation, personal hygiene, and a clean environment around the sacred Devika River, a significant heritage site in Udhampur.
Dr. Gupta emphasised the importance of keeping surroundings clean and urged the public to avoid using polythene, maintain hygiene, and protect water resources to prevent water-borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery, which can spread due to contaminated water and poor sanitation.Participants were educated on the critical role of clean water and proper waste management in fostering a healthy environment. Dr. Gupta appealed to residents to discourage littering, particularly near the Devika River, and to inspire others to adopt cleanliness practices. The initiative highlighted the collective responsibility of the community to ensure a pollution-free Udhampur.
The Municipal Council thanked all participants and reiterated its commitment to ongoing efforts to maintain public health and environmental cleanliness in the district.
