Anantnag, April 4, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, conducted a detailed inspection of the Outpatient Department and Inpatient Department sections of the Maternal and Child Care Hospital at Government Medical College Anantnag on April 3, 2025. The visit focused on ensuring high-quality healthcare services for mothers and children, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible and effective medical care in the region.
During her tour, Itoo assessed the infrastructure, staffing, and availability of essential medical resources in both the OPD and IPD sections. She interacted with doctors, nurses, and patients to gain insights into the hospital’s operations and address any challenges faced by healthcare providers and families. The minister emphasized the need for timely interventions and patient-centric care, particularly for expectant mothers and newborns, given the hospital’s critical role in serving South Kashmir’s population.
Itoo directed the hospital administration to maintain stringent hygiene standards and ensure an uninterrupted supply of life-saving drugs and diagnostic tools. She also stressed the importance of strengthening emergency services to handle critical cases efficiently. The MCCH, despite challenges posed by its current location in Sherbagh, handles a significant patient load, with thousands of outpatient visits and inpatient admissions monthly.
The minister’s visit comes amid efforts to relocate the MCCH to a safer, more modern facility, as the existing building has been deemed unsafe since 2014. Itoo assured that steps are being taken to minimize disruptions during this transition, prioritizing patient safety and care continuity. She also highlighted ongoing initiatives to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across Anantnag, including the recent inauguration of a Catheterization Laboratory at GMC Anantnag.
Itoo reiterated the government’s resolve to provide world-class healthcare, stating that no compromises would be made on the well-being of mothers and children. The inspection reflects her hands-on approach to improving medical services, ensuring that facilities like MCCH meet the needs of the community while fostering trust in public healthcare.
