Srinagar, October 23,2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday interacted with a group of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers of the 2011 batch at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar, where discussions focused on strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s global presence through trade, tourism, technology and developmental initiatives.
The visiting officers are currently on a week-long official visit to Jammu and Kashmir as part of their Mid-Career Training Programme. The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange professional insights and discuss avenues for promoting the Union Territory’s economic potential, cultural identity and development initiatives at the international level.
The delegation comprised Shri Sarvjeet Soodan, Shri Vimarsh Aryan and Ms. Ovessa Iqbal.
Discussions Focus on Global Presence of Jammu and Kashmir
During the interaction, the officers shared their professional experiences and perspectives on enhancing Jammu and Kashmir’s engagement with international stakeholders. Discussions centred on identifying opportunities to strengthen the Union Territory’s visibility across key sectors, particularly trade, tourism and technology.
The deliberations highlighted the importance of creating greater awareness about Jammu and Kashmir’s economic opportunities, tourism destinations, traditional products and emerging areas of development.
Trade was among the key areas discussed, with the potential to improve the visibility of local products and businesses in wider markets. Jammu and Kashmir is known for its traditional handicrafts, handloom products, horticulture and other region-specific industries, which contribute to livelihoods and form an important part of its economic identity.
International outreach can help create opportunities for promoting these products, strengthening market linkages and encouraging engagement with potential investors and business partners.
Tourism also featured prominently in the discussions, given its importance to the region’s economy. Greater international visibility can help showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage, adventure tourism opportunities and hospitality sector to a wider audience.
Technology and Developmental Initiatives in Focus
Technology was another important area of discussion during the meeting. The growing role of digital platforms, innovation and technology-driven services presents opportunities to improve governance, encourage entrepreneurship and support economic development.
Engagement with officers possessing international experience can provide valuable perspectives on how Jammu and Kashmir can expand its outreach and explore opportunities for collaboration across sectors.
The discussions also highlighted the Union Territory’s developmental initiatives, reflecting a focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving public services and creating opportunities for citizens.
Such interactions can contribute to exchanging ideas and identifying approaches that may support the region’s broader development priorities.
Emphasis on Youth Empowerment and Sports
Youth empowerment and sports advancement were also highlighted during the deliberations.
Creating opportunities for young people remains an important component of development, particularly through education, skill-building, entrepreneurship and participation in emerging industries. Greater exposure to national and international opportunities can help young people develop new capabilities and contribute to the region’s economic and social progress.
Sports development was another area of focus, with discussions highlighting its potential to encourage fitness, nurture talent and provide young athletes with opportunities to participate in wider competitions.
Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting talent, along with growing interest in organised sporting events, presents opportunities to strengthen sports infrastructure, encourage participation and promote the region through sporting platforms.
International Events as an Opportunity for Outreach
The facilitation of international events also formed part of the discussions. Such events can provide platforms for cultural exchange, professional engagement, tourism promotion and greater interaction with international participants.
Hosting and facilitating events with wider participation can help showcase the Union Territory’s infrastructure, hospitality and cultural heritage while creating opportunities for local businesses and service providers.
Effective international engagement can also help strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s visibility among visitors, investors and institutions seeking opportunities for collaboration.
