LG Manoj Sinha to IIM Jammu Students: Meet Yourself, Master 5Cs & Build a Better India This orientation program is important for management students as it will not only prove to be helpful in the transition for students coming from different states and backgrounds, but will also help them understand the culture of the management institution, know its mission, observe trends related to the industry and connect with institutional values. This is such an opportunity to learn about various policies of management education, public sector policy, marketing, brand positioning, strategic management and other important topics, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha while addressing the Valedictory Session of the Orientation Programme at IIM Jammu. If you are walking on the road with full awareness then it is certain that the journey to the destination will become very easy. In the last few years, many big changes have taken place in Jammu & Kashmir. And the changes are so widespread that what seemed absolutely impossible till five years ago, you or anyone in the country could not even imagine, could become possible under the leadership of India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Now look at Jammu, Jammu is the first city in the country where all the premier educational institutions are located. It is not only a center of spirituality but has now become a center of higher education as well. It is not only heaven on earth but is also emerging as a major hub of innovation in India. IIM Jammu has played a very important role in this change. The faculty members and non-teaching staff of IIM Jammu have given a new direction to this institution and have worked to give it an independent consciousness and energy. The heights to which this organisation has reached in such a short span of time are due to its vision, resilience and creativity; this organisation is fully dedicated to fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of the new generation. And moving forward step by step with each student so that building their career is directly linked to building the nation. Your journey to IIM Jammu should be shaped by any academic achievement. This new ray of hope which has self-confidence and trust will give a great strength to the nation. Friends, all of you are starting an important journey of education, so I would like to tell all of you that never forget your goal in your struggles. We all know the speed at which technology is changing today and this change is especially visible in business. Just think about it, just one generation has discovered completely new marketing channels for business. Older businesses are still deciding how to invest in and make the most of new technology to become globally competitive. Similarly, the inflow of data has increased; 90% of the world’s data has been created in the last four to five years. Now it is going to be your responsibility in future to manage it effectively for the benefit of the companies. Today it has become difficult to imagine life without technology. Therefore, you will have to contribute in building such a future where a coordination of management practices and technology can become an important medium for ease of doing business along with ease of living. You can take the example of artificial intelligence (AIS). They are not dependent on data and coding, but many systems are learning from their experiences and are self-evolving. When you enter your professional life after many years, the global market will not be the same as it is today. And so I would like to emphasize that apart from the course, the thing you need to focus more on is 5C. Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, Creativity and Curiosity. These 5 Cs will teach you life skills to face the challenges in this fast changing world. IIM Jammiu will enable you to take the right decisions not through your algorithm but through your consciousness so that its impact can reach the last corner of the society and bring about a big change in the life of a common man through your management skills.
