Baltal, June 28,2026- In a significant initiative to promote environmental sustainability during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday launched the Directorate of Rural Sanitation’s “Shubham–Shivam” campaign at Baltal. The campaign aims to transform the annual pilgrimage into a clean, sustainable, and zero-landfill yatra through innovative waste management and sanitation measures.
During the launch event, the Lieutenant Governor also unveiled several key initiatives, including the campaign’s official website, the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrimage anthem, a new logo, and an official mascot designed to spread awareness about cleanliness and environmental conservation among pilgrims.
Highlighting the importance of sanitation workers and volunteers, LG Manoj Sinha described them as the true backbone of the campaign. He expressed gratitude to the dedicated Karmyogi volunteers, whose relentless efforts will ensure cleanliness at the Baltal base camp as well as along both pilgrimage routes throughout the yatra.
“The true backbone of this initiative is our incredible sanitation team. I am grateful for the Karmyogi volunteers, whose relentless dedication will keep the base camp and both the tracks clean in the days ahead. They are the real heroes turning our zero-waste vision into reality while preserving the environment and the profound spiritual dignity of the Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrimage,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Shubham–Shivam campaign introduces a series of eco-friendly innovations focused on waste segregation, recycling, responsible disposal, and public awareness to minimize the environmental impact of one of India’s largest annual pilgrimages. The initiative aligns with the administration’s broader vision of promoting sustainable tourism and protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
The campaign is expected to play a vital role in ensuring that the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra remains not only a spiritually enriching experience for devotees but also an environmentally responsible pilgrimage, setting a benchmark for green pilgrimage management in the country.
