LG Manoj Sinha Applauds Young Minds at State-Level Arithmetic Awards in J&K Purpose learning for higher Arithmetic ALOHA State-level Award Ceremony was held in Jammu & Kashmir and the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha heartily congratulated all the participating children in J&K. On October 2nd, 2025, the state-level competitive exam was held for children between five and 15 years. Around 1500 students in J&K participated with enthusiasm. They were given 70 to 100 arithmetic operations to solve in five minutes. I am happy that the award winners have completed the most difficult calculations in such a short time, said the Lieutenant Governor. I consider such competitions and arithmetic operations very important for children. Because it not only develops numerical understanding, rather, the most important skills in children, which are problem solving and critical thinking, can also be developed. By participating in arithmetic operations and performing basic and advanced mathematical calculations, a child realises that the most powerful machine in the world is the human brain, LG stated. Personally, I believe that human mind is the greatest miracle of this life, added the Lieutenant Governor. Since the development of human civilisation, no device more valuable than this has been developed yet. Children who are adept at arithmetic operations need to know one more fact: if Vedic mathematics did not exist in the world, then arithmetic operations would not have existed in the world, LG voiced. You need to understand that arithmetic operations are not just a game of numbers, it is not just addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, it is an art, it is a science, it is a philosophy. And so, I also look at math beyond numbers. And I see a better future in that. And so I have a clear view of the past. Aryabhata and Brahmagupta, I think it is very important for anyone who is interested in the art of arithmetic to know these two names. If Aryabhata and Brahmagupta had not been there, arithmetic operations might not have been possible. Not only arithmetic operations, but the development of civilisation, the development of science and the development of artificial intelligence also cannot happen so fast. Arithmetic operations teach both children and teachers that education doesn’t mean turning your mind into a storehouse. Education means awakening the mind. Education is about awakening the mind and creating curiosity in students. The meaning of education is to awaken the mind and create curiosity in the students, not to build lack of faith and create doubts in them. Education gives you back your individuality and gives you full opportunity to develop your unique talent. The competition of arithmetic operations ignites the fire of critical thinking, scientific temper and creativity within students, expalined the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha.
