KVK Poonch Trains Rural Women in Candle and Soap Making

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Poonch, under Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), organised a week-long training programme on candle and soap making for rural women to promote self-employment and economic empowerment. The programme aimed to provide participants with practical skills that can help them start small businesses and develop additional sources of income. During the training, women received hands-on guidance in the preparation of candles and soaps, enabling them to understand the basic techniques involved in these activities. In-charge KVK Poonch, Ajay Gupta, said the initiative was designed to equip rural women with useful skills and encourage them to explore livelihood opportunities. He highlighted the importance of skill development in promoting self-reliance and improving the economic condition of women in rural areas. Such training programmes play an important role in creating awareness about entrepreneurship and helping women turn their skills into income-generating activities. The initiative reflects KVK Poonch’s efforts to support rural development by connecting women with practical training and livelihood opportunities. It also encourages greater participation of women in economic activities and strengthens the vision of an Atmanirbhar rural community.
