KVK hosts Mushroom Cultivation workshop for students of GDC Hiranagar

KATHUA, OCTOBER 24: A One day Workshop on mushroom cultivation was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua SKUAST-JAMMU under ARYA-Project.
The workshop was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua in collaboration with Govt. G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar.
Total of Forty students participated in the workshop. The students were taken to a field for practical demonstration, where the various stages of compost were being prepared for mushrooms and the turning process was going on. The students very enthusiastically participated in the workshop
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kathua Dr. Vishal Mahajan, emphasized upon mushroom unit to improve livelihood security of the need youth and adoption of mushroom cultivation as an enterprise based approval for development of Mushroom sector. He elaborated the objective behind organization of the workshop on mushroom cultivation. He also briefed various opportunities and subsidies given by Government for taking up mushroom cultivation and other allied activities
Chief Scientist, Plant Protection and CO-PI of ARYA Project Dr. Anamika Jamwal, emphasised upon the scientific methods for cultivations of year round mushroom. She briefs the students about cultivation methods for different types of mushroom like White Button, Dhingri and Milky mushroom. She also discussed health benefits, processing and how to run a mushroom production unit. She elaborated the processes of spawning, casing, pinning and cropping in very interesting way. She also shared her previous experience of working related to mushroom enterprise. The students expressed keen interest and enthusiasm towards the workshop.
Students of Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua for one Day Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation.
Prof. Neeru Sharma from Govt. G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar expressed gratitude to scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for their joint collaboration in organising the one day workshop. The programme was attended by Prof. Ganga Sharma and Prof. Tammana Rajput from Govt. G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar.
Other scientists present at the Programme were Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat, Dr Vishal Sharma, Amit Kumar and Sushant Sharma.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pragaya Khanna, esteemed Principal of Govt. G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar. About 40 students attended the workshop and received hands-on training on Mushroom Cultivation.
