Kashmir Ahead

Kulgam brings services under one roof

Kashmir,October 1,2026– Residents of Kulgam can now get a range of government services at a single location, thanks to the Digital Centre of Excellence at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The facility offers Aadhaar updates, certificates, digital documents and other citizen-centric services under one roof.

The initiative follows the “One Door, One Step” approach. Its aim is simple: make government services easier to reach, save citizens’ time and ensure that services are delivered efficiently at the grassroots level.

Ending the Run from Counter to Counter

For many people, even a routine task such as updating Aadhaar details or obtaining a certificate has meant visiting several offices, standing in queues and returning more than once. For residents of remote villages, each trip to the district headquarters also costs travel time and money.

The new centre is designed to change that. With multiple services available in one place, a citizen can complete several tasks in a single visit. Officials say this is especially helpful for the elderly, women, students and daily wage earners, for whom a lost day can mean a lost income.

Digital Access at the Centre of Governance

The centre reflects a wider push towards digital governance in Jammu and Kashmir. Services that once relied on paper files and manual processing are being moved to online platforms, where records can be stored, retrieved and verified faster. Digital documents also reduce the risk of loss and the need to carry bulky files.

By placing these services in the DC Office complex, the administration has put digital facilities within easy reach of the public rather than leaving them confined to portals that many residents find hard to use alone. Staff at the centre can guide visitors through the process, which also builds familiarity with digital tools.

Why Aadhaar Services Matter

Aadhaar is now linked to a wide range of services, from banking and welfare benefits to school admissions and mobile connections. Errors in demographic details or outdated biometrics can therefore lead to delays in accessing entitlements. A dedicated facility where residents can get updates done without hassle helps them avoid such problems.

The centre also supports the ongoing effort in districts across the Union Territory to ensure that every resident, including children, has an accurate and up-to-date Aadhaar record.

Benefits for Citizens

The administration expects the initiative to deliver several practical benefits:

  • Several services available in a single visit
  • Less waiting time and fewer repeat trips
  • Lower travel costs for people from distant areas
  • Easier access to digital records and documents
  • Greater transparency and efficiency in service delivery

Governance Closer to the People

The “One Door, One Step” approach reflects a view that good governance is measured at the point where citizens meet the system. When a person can walk into one office and leave with the work done, trust in public institutions grows.

Officials said the administration will continue to strengthen digital facilities and coordination between departments so that more services can be added over time. Residents are encouraged to use the centre and share feedback to help improve it.

For the people of Kulgam, the message is straightforward: fewer doors, fewer steps and faster service.
