Kishtwar, March 9,2026- In a major milestone for rural housing development, the district of Kishtwar has achieved 96% completion under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), significantly improving housing facilities for rural families.
According to official data, out of 16,209 houses sanctioned under the flagship rural housing scheme Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin, 15,543 houses have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries across the district. The achievement reflects sustained efforts by the district administration to ensure that eligible rural households receive safe and permanent housing.
Officials stated that 666 houses are currently under construction, and the administration is working to complete the remaining units within the stipulated timeframe. The progress marks a significant step toward achieving the government’s vision of providing “Housing for All” in rural areas.
The scheme has played a crucial role in improving the living conditions of economically weaker families by providing financial assistance for the construction of pucca houses with basic amenities. Beneficiaries have expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating that the programme has helped them move from temporary shelters to secure and dignified homes.
District authorities credited the success to coordinated efforts between implementing agencies, field officials, and local communities. Regular monitoring, transparency in beneficiary selection, and timely fund disbursement have contributed to the high completion rate in the district.
Officials reiterated that the administration remains committed to ensuring the early completion of the remaining houses, further strengthening rural infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents of Kishtwar.
