Kathua, March 28,2026- In a significant step towards strengthening the livestock sector, the Sheep Husbandry Department has established a Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Kathua to support wool producers with modern processing and value addition services.
Developed under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), the project has been set up at an estimated cost of ₹46 lakh, along with an additional ₹10 lakh wool processing unit. The facility is equipped with advanced systems for wool scouring, grading, value addition, and packaging, aimed at enhancing the quality and marketability of locally produced wool.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. R K Manhas stated that the initiative will play a crucial role in improving the income of sheep breeders. “The centre will enable scientific grading of wool and ensure better returns for farmers by enhancing quality standards,” he said.
The newly established facility is expected to benefit a large number of sheep farmers in Kathua and nearby areas by providing access to modern infrastructure and reducing dependency on external processing units. It will also promote value chain development in the wool sector, making sheep farming more sustainable and profitable.
Officials believe that such initiatives under HADP will significantly contribute to rural livelihoods, empower livestock farmers, and boost the overall agricultural economy in Jammu and Kashmir.
