Kashmir’s Tulip Garden sets new visitor record this spring

Srinagar, 15 April, 2025 – Srinagar’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Asia’s largest, has shattered visitor records this spring, drawing massive crowds since its opening in late March 2025. Nestled between Dal Lake and the Zabarwan Hills, the garden’s vibrant tulip display in a spectrum of colours has captivated tourists, blending nature’s beauty with Kashmir’s cultural richness. This unprecedented turnout highlights the valley’s rising status as a global tourism destination.

The Tulip Show, launched by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, heralds spring with a dazzling array of tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils. Visitors, both domestic and international, have flocked to the sprawling garden, praising its “paradise-like” charm. The event, running through April, features Kashmiri folk music, handicraft stalls, and local treats like Kahwa, creating a vibrant cultural experience. Its recognition in the World Book of Records as Asia’s largest tulip garden adds to its allure.

The tourism boom is uplifting Kashmir’s economy, boosting livelihoods for shikara operators, artisans, and vendors. The Floriculture Department’s innovations, like QR-based ticketing, have streamlined the visitor experience. However, officials are emphasising sustainable practices to protect the garden’s delicate ecosystem amid the heavy footfall.

Beyond its blooms, Kashmir’s spring story shines with snow-capped peaks and a sense of tranquility, reshaping narratives about the region as a beacon of peace and beauty. With inquiries surging, the garden is poised for even greater prominence, solidifying Srinagar’s place on the world tourism stage.
