Kashmiri Artisan Crafts Aazadi Spirit with Crewel Embroidered Tirangas, Hopes for Nationwide Demand

Nazima from Jammu & Kashmir’s Kupwara district is happy that she has started her business with the making of the national flag, Tiranga at the Kupwara centre. Two years ago, on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day and celebrations of Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, she had made around 400-500 flags with 20 girls who are learning from her and helping her out. In the coming future, she wishes that the demand for flags comes not only from Kupwara, but also from Kashmir and the whole of India. Mohammad Afzal says, the Tiranga we are making is in Crewel embroidery and specially designed for every home. It is not getting made in factories. The talented girls of Kashmir are, for the first time, making the Tiranga using Crewel embroidery in eight centres.
