Kashmir,December 7,2025-Across the Kashmir Valley, spanning districts from Baramulla and Kupwara in the north to Shopian and Pulwama in the south, a quiet yet significant social shift is taking root. Young people who were once frequently involved in street protests and occasional stone-pelting are increasingly turning toward structured skill-building and livelihood programmes, signalling a move from unrest toward opportunity.
Government initiatives, such as vocational training schemes and youth empowerment programmes, are playing a pivotal role in this transformation. These efforts aim to equip young men and women with marketable skills in trades ranging from hospitality and tourism to information technology and horticulture. By providing access to training, mentorship, and employment opportunities, these programmes offer a tangible alternative to disillusionment and idle time.
Local communities and NGOs are also stepping in to complement government efforts, offering life-skills workshops, entrepreneurship guidance, and counselling to help youth envision a stable future. Job fairs and recruitment drives across the valley have further reinforced the message that meaningful employment is within reach.
The shift is particularly visible among young women, who are increasingly participating in skill-development initiatives and pursuing small businesses, challenging traditional societal expectations. Meanwhile, aspiring entrepreneurs among the youth are leveraging digital platforms and innovative models to create sustainable livelihoods in their hometowns.
While unemployment remains a challenge, with tens of thousands of educated youth still seeking work, the trend reflects a broader change in aspirations. The Valley’s younger generation is gradually moving away from conflict-driven engagement toward productive avenues that promise personal growth, financial stability, and social impact.
This subtle shift, from unrest to skill-building and livelihood, may mark the beginning of a new chapter for Kashmir’s youth — one rooted in hope, opportunity, and tangible progress.
