Srinagar, December 22,2025:Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that Kashmir is fully prepared to host the upcoming Winter Games, well ahead of the harsh 40-day Chilla-i-Kalam period. He assured that all necessary arrangements, including infrastructure, logistics, safety measures, and essential services, have been put firmly in place.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister stated that preparations covering infrastructure development, transportation logistics, security, electricity supply, water availability, and connectivity have been completed to ensure smooth conduct of the winter sporting events.
He emphasised that the Winter Games would not only promote winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir but also give a significant boost to tourism and local livelihoods, especially in snow-bound regions. “Winter sports have the potential to generate employment, attract tourists, and strengthen the local economy during the lean winter season,” the Chief Minister said.
The government, he added, is focused on positioning Kashmir as a global winter tourism destination, with events such as skiing, snowboarding, and other snow-based activities drawing participants and visitors from across the country and abroad.
Chilla-i-Kalam, which marks the coldest phase of winter in Kashmir, is scheduled to begin later this month. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure uninterrupted civic services and safety for both residents and tourists during this period.
