Srinagar, December 25,2025-After a short period of slightly milder temperatures, Kashmir is witnessing a significant drop in mercury, with several areas recording sub-zero temperatures. The sudden chill has marked the return of harsh winter conditions across the valley.
According to the MeT Department, Srinagar recorded an early morning low below 0°C, while higher-altitude regions like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Kupwara experienced intense frost and sub-zero conditions. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, particularly the elderly and children, as the cold wave intensifies.
The brief respite over the past few days provided temporary relief, but the drop in temperatures signals the onset of deep winter in the region. Meteorologists say that clear skies combined with calm winds are contributing to the sharp fall in night temperatures.
Authorities have urged people to remain cautious while traveling on Mughal Road and other high-altitude passes, as icy conditions could pose risks. Meanwhile, power and heating arrangements are being monitored to ensure adequate facilities for residents during the cold spell.
The valley is expected to continue experiencing freezing temperatures over the next few days, with morning lows remaining well below the freezing point in many areas.
